Apollo Bay actress Ella Bourne doesn\u2019t cower at the thought of committing herself to something.<\/p>\n
Returning to the coast from Los Angeles, the hardworking film buff has spent the last few years tapping into the production side of the industry.<\/p>\n
Dabbling in writing, directing and performing, Ella\u2019s recent project, Awoke, boasts multiple international acknowledgements including best environmental film at the California Film Awards.<\/p>\n
Ella still pinches herself at the film\u2019s success.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know how I managed to pull it off,\u201d she says laughing.<\/p>\n
\u201cAbout six weeks before I moved to L.A., I said to myself \u2018I want to make a film\u2019. It was crazy.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wanted to make something that was different and had a purpose. I said to some people I thought might be interested \u2018I\u2019ve got this idea\u2019 and everyone came on board.\u201d<\/p>\n
Upon arriving home, Ella played Helen of Troy in Melbourne production Women of Troy, which she also produced.<\/p>\n
Most recently, Ella\u2019s locked herself in as a producer and cast member for a new Australian and United Kingdom coproduction feature film, The Jailer Within.<\/p>\n
While the film finalises castings, Ella is basing herself between Torquay and Melbourne.<\/p>\n
\u201cI grew up in Apollo Bay and always gravitated towards coming back,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n
\u201cI needed my ocean fix to calm down and recharge. The film world is so crazy and different.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome days I\u2019m working from 8am to 1am the next morning.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ella will work alongside international director Cathrin Blickling and AFI nominated executive producer David Redman to bring The Jailer Within to life.<\/p>\n
The film \u2013 which is powered by a mostly female creative team \u2013 is about posttraumatic stress disorder in women who
\nhave experienced childhood abuse.<\/p>\n
Ella says the script brought her to tears when she first read it.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt (the script) was so gripping. I was turning the pages as quickly as I could,\u201d she recalls.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a story that needs to be out there as it\u2019s not really explored in our social climate, but things are changing.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s really cool to work on a project that\u2019s really female driven. We\u2019re not intentionally excluding men; the voice naturally came out to attract strong females in creative roles.\u201d<\/p>\n
