A new theatre experience titled Robot Song is coming to the Geelong Performing Arts Centre in June as part of GPAC\u2019s Creative Learning Program.<\/p>\n
Based on a true story, Robot Song presents 11-year-old Juniper May who receives a petition signed by her entire class which dubs her as the most disliked person in school.<\/p>\n
When Juniper sees what her classmates think of her, her life is thrust into chaos. After hours of trial and error, Juniper\u2019s parents resort to the only idea they have left \u2013 a giant singing robot.<\/p>\n
Telling a tale of hope and unconditional love, Juniper discovers how creativity can open doors into places she never knew existed.<\/p>\n
Geelong Performing Arts CEO Joel McGuiness says Robot Song is aimed at children aged 8-12 and their families; and provides a great opportunity to celebrate and discuss experiences of difference.<\/p>\n

It is for any child who has ever felt isolated or pushed to the margins and any parent desperate for tools to help,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe show employs cutting edge digital technology, startling animatronics and a beautiful original musical score \u2013 it\u2019s a genuine family show produced by the incredible Arena Theatre Company \u2013 and we\u2019re very excited to host it here in Geelong.\u201d<\/p>\n
Written and directed by Jolyon James, the story draws on his own experience raising a child on the autism spectrum.<\/p>\n
James also poses the question, how do we support, foster and celebrate children in an increasingly critical society?<\/p>\n
