MEAGAN Mifsud was awarded with RACV Torquay\u2019s outstanding community award the weekend before last, with the Torquay Netball Club president enjoying a night\u2019s accommodation at the resort before attending the Geelong v Sydney clash at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday June 1.<\/p>\n
Nominated by committee member Sharon Lanyon \u2013 who described Meagan as a \u201cpositive and enthusiastic personality\u201d \u2013 Meagan said she was flattered to even be nominated.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had an amazing weekend; it was very special. Initially I was a bit embarrassed because it\u2019s not the reason why you do what you do, but it is nice to know people are grateful for your involvement in the community,\u201d Meagan said.<\/p>\n
\u201cSharon\u2019s been on the committee for about seven or eight years out of the 12 years I\u2019ve been around. She\u2019s done a lot herself. As soon as I hung up from the RACV, I got on the phone to her straight away. I was very chuffed.\u201d<\/p>\n
Devoting many volunteer hours to the club, Meagan said she\u2019s played netball since she was 10. Her love for the game has never wavered.<\/p>\n
On top of her presidency responsibilities, Meagan organises the TNC committee, works in conjunction with the club\u2019s coaches, attends meetings in both Geelong and Torquay, provides administration on game days and coordinates and liaises with club sponsors.<\/p>\n
Meagan says while it\u2019s challenging spending time away from her husband, Glen, and their two children, Emma, 21, and Nathan, 18, the connections she\u2019s made through her active involvement in the club have been incredibly rewarding.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve made so many lifelong friends at the club, having coached, played and been on the committee,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome of the youngest kids I\u2019ve ever coached are now driving cars \u2013 it\u2019s absolutely the rewarding part. We just do our bit to keep the kids off the street and provide a safe haven for them where they can play and enjoy.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs president you\u2019ve also got to take the hits \u2013 it\u2019s a lot of pressure, but the social part I do really enjoy. You\u2019re always meeting with people, pulling together people\u2019s strengths and weaknesses and seeing people get involved.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
