REGIONAL leaders from Victoria\u2019s south west and South Australia\u2019s eastern regions have begun conversations to prioritise greater collaboration and economic development across the Victorian and South Australian state border.<\/p>\n
Representatives from RDA Committees from Barwon South West, Grampians Limestone Coast and Murraylands and Riverlands regions met with the Victorian Cross Border Commissioner, Luke Wilson.<\/p>\n
The RDA committees are part of a national network of local leaders who work with all levels of government, business and community groups to support the economic development of their regions.<\/p>\n
The meeting in Edenhope earlier this month explored regional themes including workforce shortages such as truck driver shortages in Portland and Mount Gambier, as well as identifying collaborative cross-border projects such as visitor attraction opportunities in the Green Triangle to increase tourism and benefits for border towns.<\/p>\n
RDA Barwon South West chair Bruce Anson said the involvement of Victorian Cross Border Commissioner Luke Wilson was critical to giving a voice to cross-border challenges.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis meeting was an important first step and by working together, we can leverage our unique positions, knowledge and experience of our neighbouring regions on the South Australian border to bring a unified story to government.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Commissioner\u2019s attendance today means he can understand these challenges in greater detail and heard firsthand from the regions what is affecting people on the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Wilson said he was pleased to see the strong participation by all representatives and the initiation of the RDA committees to create these ongoing discussions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis meeting is an important step to bring neighbouring regions and states together and identify opportunities for economic development, job creation and growth.<\/p>\n
