THE City of Greater Geelong is considering the future development of land surrounding the South Geelong railway station.<\/p>\n
The Urban Design Framework (UDF) will help create a shared design vision and direct future public and private investment in the area.<\/p>\n
Priorities of the project include:
\n\u2022 Upgrades to spaces and places for people and events
\n\u2022 improving streetscapes to make the area safe and accessible to all
\n\u2022 identifying opportunities to encourage a mix of housing types, and
\n\u2022 ideas for a clever and creative South Geelong.<\/p>\n
The UDF will provide planning guidelines to protect the valued character of the suburb and guide future building form, scale and materials.<\/p>\n
The project builds on the city\u2019s Settlement Strategy, which recommended investigating opportunities for higher density development around rail corridors.<\/p>\n
It also follows the commitment of the state and federal governments to duplicate the rail track from South Geelong to Waurn Ponds.<\/p>\n
The rail improvement project includes the upgrade of stations and platforms, and the city says it is important Geelong\u2019s planning frameworks support and leverage the opportunities presented by major infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n
Public workshops on the UDF will be held at East Geelong Football Netball Club on July 31 (5.30- 8.30pm) and August 6 (6-9pm), and at Eastern Hub Geelong on August 10 (9.30am to 12.30pm).<\/p>\n
