	{"id":27331,"date":"2019-07-17T15:45:26","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T05:45:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=27331"},"modified":"2019-07-17T15:45:26","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T05:45:26","slug":"sharks-have-a-happy-hunting-ground-at-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/sharks-have-a-happy-hunting-ground-at-home\/","title":{"rendered":"Sharks have a happy hunting ground at home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ARMSTRONG Creek\u2019s first junior footy sides hosted their first home games on Saturday, and both teams snapped up a win.<\/p>\n<p>Playing at the new Warralily sports precinct in Central Boulevard, the Armstrong Creek Sharks Junior Football Club Under 9s defeated East Geelong 47 points to 38, while the Under 10s defeated Newcomb 22 points to 12.<\/p>\n<p>Club president Tamieka Reid was thrilled with the result.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor us the highlight was having such a successful day for our first home matches and just seeing the community come out and support us,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe as a club are so proud of every player; they have all developed immensely and that is credit to our coaches and support volunteers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said the Sharks had 35 players and 108 Auskick participants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe opening of the new Warralily ovals is extremely important to the growth of the club because it gives us a home base, it cements us as a part of the community and gives our players a sense of pride.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe community can see our home base, they can see the team spirit and know we are a fixture of the community. When they drive past they will think \u2018this is the home of the Armstrong Creek Sharks\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe opening of the new clubrooms is very exciting &#8211; communities are built around sporting clubs, and we are lucky enough to share the rooms with other sporting clubs that truly make it the home of Armstrong Creek sport.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur children can now grow up knowing that if they want to play football, soccer, cricket or netball they have a home just down the road.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The sports precinct has senior and junior AFL ovals with provision for cricket and soccer, netball courts and community open space, with path networks to neighbouring shops and schools as well as to the creek corridor.<\/p>\n<p>Armstrong United FC will also move into the precinct after a successful first year of operation in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The soccer club aims to rapidly expand over 2019-2020 with plans for more teams to join its Under 7s, Under 9s, Under 11s, Senior Men\u2019s and Senior Women\u2019s teams.<\/p>\n<p>Warralily, the developers of the estate, are the major sponsor of both clubs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ARMSTRONG Creek\u2019s first junior footy sides hosted their first home games on Saturday, and both teams snapped up a win.
