	{"id":27402,"date":"2019-07-18T09:17:54","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T23:17:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=27402"},"modified":"2019-07-18T09:17:54","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T23:17:54","slug":"fishing-report-july-18-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/fishing-report-july-18-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"FISHING REPORT &#8211; July 18, 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ANGLESEA<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00bb Weather conditions are still affecting all reports<br \/>\n\u00bb Reports of salmon catches off local beaches continue<br \/>\n\u00bb A few whiting have been reported but once again only when fishermen can get out<br \/>\n\u00bb The odd gummy shark and flathead are still being reported.<\/p>\n<p><em>Report provided courtesy the<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Anglesea Rusty Anglers Angling<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Club<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>BARWON HEADS<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00bb Reports of snapper, pinkies and flathead but only when fishers can get out<br \/>\n\u00bb The river is producing some small whiting and some trevally and salmon<br \/>\n\u00bb A few salmon are also being caught off local beaches, but reports are few and far between.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LORNE<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00bb The big snapper that were being caught last month have moved on but still plenty of 30 to 40cm pinkies being caught<br \/>\n\u00bb Plenty of good-sized gummy and school sharks coming in<br \/>\n\u00bb The flathead are still fishing well in between the big swell events. They go off the bite for some reason when there\u2019s a big swell running<br \/>\n\u00bb There\u2019s been quite a few really big blue spot or yank flathead amongst them<br \/>\n\u00bb Plenty of good-size winter salmon are being landed<br \/>\n\u00bb The King George whiting are still about which is unusual for this time of year and speaking of unusual there\u2019s been a few John Dory being caught<br \/>\n\u00bb The blue mackerel, yakka\u2019s and couta are still here in big schools so we\u2019ve been saving heaps on our bait purchasing.<br \/>\n\u00bb The Lorne Pier has been busy over the school holidays with plenty of fish being caught<br \/>\n\u00bb Some anglers have been having a great run of good size sand and King George whiting<br \/>\n\u00bb Also plenty of salmon, mullet, trevally, calamari, snapper and the odd flathead being landed.<\/p>\n<p><em>Report thanks to the Lorne Aquatic\u00a0<\/em><em>and Angling club<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>TORQUAY<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00bb Reports of King George whiting and some snapper by those fishing off the land and offshore when they are able to<br \/>\n\u00bb Still reports of some good salmon off local beaches<br \/>\n\u00bb Spring Creek reports some small bream.<\/p>\n<p><em>Torquay Tackle and Sports<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>QUEENSCLIFF<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00bb St Leonards is still receiving reports of good-sized King George whiting, a few flathead and squid<br \/>\n\u00bb Clifton Springs has whiting, flathead, squid the occasional pinkies are being caught when people get out<br \/>\n\u00bb Queenscliff reports of whiting in good numbers as well as flathead, pinkies and squid when conditions permit<br \/>\n\u00bb The creek is still seeing some trevally being caught<br \/>\n\u00bb Swan Bay is seeing pinkies, flathead and squid near the mouth being caught<br \/>\n\u00bb Point Lonsdale pier is still seeing reports of trevally, King George whiting and some salmon<br \/>\n\u00bb The White Lady is still seeing reports of whiting, squid and flathead<br \/>\n\u00bb Indented Head is still seeing reports of flathead, King George whiting, squid and snapper.<\/p>\n<p>A NEW survey of recreational fishers and boaters gets underway this month to better understand the social and economic value of these pastimes in Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) CEO Travis Dowling said the previous study into the value of recreational fishing and boating is now more than five years old and a more current assessment is required to inform management approaches and investment decisions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe new survey, to be undertaken by Ernst &amp; Young, is a partnership between the VFA and Better Boating Victoria, which was established to deliver on a commitment of the State Government\u2019s $35 million Target One Million plan for fishing and boating,\u201d Mr Dowling said.<\/p>\n<p>The new study will provide up-to-date estimates of:<br \/>\n\u2022 direct and indirect output<br \/>\n\u2022 direct and indirect value added<br \/>\n\u2022 direct and indirect full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs<br \/>\n\u2022 total annual recreational fishing participation.<\/p>\n<p>Better Boating Victoria CEO Gary Gaffney said the survey will increase the knowledge base about the value boating brings to the community and help inform future boating strategies.<\/p>\n<p>The study will collect data on recreational fishing and boating using a secure online survey of at least 1,000 participants.<\/p>\n<p>The online survey will be conducted this month and next with the results to be analysed and modelled to determine the economic value of recreational fishing and boating sectors.<\/p>\n<p>Ernst &amp; Young will produce three reports in spring: one for recreational fishing, one for boating, and one for recreational fishing and boating combined. All reports will be made publicly available.<\/p>\n<p>Submissions are welcome, particularly regarding what recreational fishing and\/ or boating means to you, your family, your business and your community. All submissions will be considered and assist with the final reports.<\/p>\n<p>Submissions can be emailed to helen.myroniuk@vfa.vic.gov.au by August 16 or for more information email dallas.d\u2019silva@vfa.vic.gov.au.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, if you see or suspect illegal fishing activity any time, phone the 24- hour reporting line 13 FISH (13 3474).<\/p>\n<h3><strong>CLUB CORNER<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Lorne Aquatic &amp; Angling Club held their second Winter Cup Fishing Competition recently with some nice fish being weighed in.<\/p>\n<p>Senior winner was the Salmon King, Ian Middleton, with a huge salmon, 3,820 points; runner-up was Keith Miller with<br \/>\na big Blue Spot Flathead, 2,950 points; third was Ric Addison with a nice snapper, 2,680 points.
