SOUTH Barwon schools can now apply for a share in equipment funding to support students with disabilities and special needs.<\/p>\n
The scheme is part of the Andrews Labor Government\u2019s $8.8 million Equipment Boost for Schools initiative which funds new specialised equipment and assistive technology for students who require additional learning tools.<\/p>\n
Education Minister James Merlino made the announcement last week, with schools able to apply for equipment including customised or adjustable furniture, mobility equipment, literacy aids, communication software and inclusive recreation equipment until September 20.<\/p>\n
South Barwon MP Darren Cheeseman encouraged schools in his electorate to apply for the funding.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs we build the Education State, we\u2019re continuing to invest in schools to ensure students of all abilities can get a great education \u2013 no matter their circumstances, level of ability or learning needs.<\/p>\n
\u201cI encourage South Barwon schools to apply for this funding, which will make a real difference to students who need it and help make our classrooms and schools more inclusive for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n
Schools can also be supported to provide training to teachers.<\/p>\n
The initiative is part of the state government\u2019s commitment to inclusive education and equal opportunities for all
