SURF Coast residents will have the chance to learn more about the future impact of climate change on our coast at a dinner hosted by the Aireys Inlet Uniting Church in Anglesea next month.<\/p>\n
Organisers are thrilled to have senior CSIRO researcher, Dr Kathleen McInnes, speaking at the\u00a0event.<\/p>\n
Dr McInnes leads CSIRO\u2019s Climate Extremes and Projection Group. Her research addresses how climate change will affect severe weather events and coastal, extreme sea levels particularly in Australia and the South Pacific.<\/p>\n
She has developed climate projections to assist local government manage coastal hazards and adapt to climate change, and was part of a CSIRO team that developed a wave energy atlas for the Australian wave renewable energy industry.<\/p>\n
Dr McInnes has received numerous awards for her work and is a Fellow of the Australian Meteorology and Oceanography Society. She is working on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Special Report on Ocean and Cryosphere.<\/p>\n
The church\u2019s dinner is the latest in a series of events, bringing notable people to the community to speak on topical issues.<\/p>\n
Past speakers have included Professr Greg Barton, an expert in international terrorism; Judge Felicity Hampel, who shared experiences on women in the law; Julian Burnside, speaking on refugees; and Patrick Dangerfield, who spoke on his career in AFL football.<\/p>\n
The new catering team at the Anglesea Golf Club has designed a superb menu with a choice of two entrees and two main courses.<\/p>\n
A vegetarian option will be available and drinks can be purchased at the bar.<\/p>\n
Proceeds from the evening will be shared between a charity of the speaker\u2019s choice and the Uniting Church\u2019s social welfare work in our region.<\/p>\n
The event will take place at the Anglesea Golf Club on August 10 from 6pm.<\/p>\n
