Great Ocean Road Health (GORH), with support from the Victorian Government, is gearing up to host a luncheon that aims to shine a light on diversity and the varying needs of community members. <\/p>\n
Jessica Walton, author of Introducing Teddy, will be in attendance to speak at the event.<\/p>\n
Having been published in 13 countries and translated into nine languages, Jessica\u2019s book introduces young readers to the concepts of gender identity and transition through a gentle story about staying true to yourself and being a good friend.<\/p>\n
While Introducing Teddy is Jessica\u2019s first children\u2019s book, she is a cancer survivor, amputee, queer woman, daughter of a transgender parent, feminist, musician and teacher.<\/p>\n
Jessica will share her passion for making children\u2019s literature more representative of the dynamic population, while also discussing her personal journey and experiences.<\/p>\n
Great Ocean Road Health acting chief executive officer Carissa Brock said GORH has developed an \u201cInclusive Practice Steering Group\u201d to provide guidance and undertake initiatives aimed at ensuring the health service remains accessible, relevant and welcoming to everyone.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re really proud to be hosting this event, and we hope that it will attract people of all ages from around the region,\u201d Ms Brock said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s particularly important for young people to know that they\u2019re not alone and that there are lots of support services available as they head out on life\u2019s journey.\u201d<\/p>\n
Celebrating Diversity with Jessica Walton will be held this Sunday August 18 from 12pm at Little Feast (85 Great Ocean Road, Aireys Inlet).<\/p>\n
