{"id":28995,"date":"2019-08-15T08:00:21","date_gmt":"2019-08-14T22:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=28995"},"modified":"2020-10-12T15:02:32","modified_gmt":"2020-10-12T05:02:32","slug":"a-century-of-coastline-history-to-take-spotlight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/a-century-of-coastline-history-to-take-spotlight\/","title":{"rendered":"A century of coastline history to take spotlight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GREAT Ocean Road Regional Tourism has unveiled its commemorative program for the centenary of the state\u2019s most identifiable seaside thoroughfare.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Story of the Road\u201d campaign, which will run from September 18 until October 6, features a series of curated events including gala screenings of new documentary film <em>The Story of the Road<\/em>, pop-up cinemas, public art installations and augmented reality experiences from Torquay to Apollo Bay.<\/p>\n<p>The event will celebrate the Great Ocean Road\u2019s history as well as its role in transporting tourists and locals along the pinnacle of Australia\u2019s stunning coastline.<\/p>\n<p>It will also pay homage to the road\u2019s status as one of the largest war memorials in the world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Activities on offer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>The Story of the Road<\/em> is the brainchild of Clothesline Content filmmakers Jacqueline Tonks and Claire Falkiner.<\/p>\n<p>The documentary follows the rich history that exists across the stretch of coastline while uncovering the harsh reality of life for those who constructed the road.<\/p>\n<p>The Lorne Theatre together with Apollo Bay Mechanics Hall will house the first screenings of The Story of the Road from September 18.<\/p>\n<p>Immersive experiences will also be on offer, with a 1920s inspired brew from Prickly Moses, recreation of the iconic French 75 cocktail from Great Ocean Road Gin and appearances from Sugarfoot Ramblers Swing Band locked in as part of the celebration. Tickets available via <a href=\"http:\/\/visitgreatoceanroad.org.au\/iam100\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">visitgreatoceanroad.org.au\/iam100.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Pop up cinema experiences will be on offer in Torquay, Anglesea, Lorne, Wye River and Apollo Bay.
