THE region\u2019s neighbouring schools will be among the first in the state to have access to the Andrews Labor Government\u2019s free dental vans.<\/p>\n
Armstrong Creek School, Bellbrae Primary School, Ceres Primary School, Grovedale West Primary School and Highton Primary School will each score a visit from the Smile Squad Dental Vans this term, with the five schools among the 22 announced by Premier Daniel Andrews.<\/p>\n
The mobile dental service will provide free check-ups and treatment including teeth cleaning, fluoride applications, fillings and other non-cosmetic treatments.<\/p>\n
An early prevention scheme designed to avert oral health issues, the vans hope to keep kids healthy while eliminating the financial burden of exorbitant dental bills.<\/p>\n
Mr Andrews described the program as a \u201clandmark\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur students deserve bright and healthy smiles \u2013 without the high costs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur landmark free dental program will help ensure Victorian kids have good teeth, as well as helping parents save on hefty dental bills.\u201d<\/p>\n
Initial calculations have estimated that the vans will slash dental bills by up to $400 per year for each child.<\/p>\n
The Smile Squad initiative will also free up more than 100,000 appointment slots annually for adults who are waiting to receive treatment in the public dental system.<\/p>\n
South Barwon MP Darren Cheeseman said he was delighted the region would be one of the first places visited by the Smile Squad.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis will bring significant oral health benefits for South Barwon children.\u201d<\/p>\n
