ROADWORKS have started on the Great Ocean Road along the Cumberland River hillside.
\nAbseiling crews have been descaling unstable rocks on the hillside since February.
\nSo far these crews have descaled the lower and middle parts of the cliff, but to do the upper parts the road will have to be reduced to one lane, and two pull over areas will be closed. A 36-metre protective wall will also be erected on the Lorne side of the road.
\nTraffic will run one direction at a time, with traffic controllers on site during work times, and traffic lights being used off-hours.
\nDrivers may experience delays of up to 10 minutes when rocks are being lowered.
\nThese arrangements are set to be in place until the end of November.

\nMeanwhile, further works were conducted in the region on the weekend and traffic conditions changed as a tree was removed from the roadside on Colac-Lavers Hill Road. People were advised to avoid the area, as delays of up to an hour were possible.
