Member for Western Victoria Stuart Grimley has thrown his support behind Envision, a not-for-profit organisation that supports disadvantaged, disabled and isolated community members.<\/p>\n
The Envision Hands initiative involves the conversion of plastic bottle lids and other recyclable plastics into artificial hands for children living in third world countries.<\/p>\n
The program also sees its employees, who are often marginalised individuals, collect donations to create \u201cmusical walls\u201d for kindergartens as well as large bird aviaries.<\/p>\n
Recyclable waste that would otherwise be diverted to landfill helps the charity uphold its commitment to sustainability, a key focus of Envision.<\/p>\n
In support of this mission, Mr Grimley said he will use his Electorate Office as a collection point so members of the community can drop off plastic bottle caps.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think having an Electorate Office is an opportunity to bring the community together and support some great local initiatives,\u201d Mr Grimley said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis initiative isn\u2019t going to fix the current recycling crisis, but it\u2019s an excellent way to repurpose a type of plastic and educate our kids on the different types of plastics in circulation.<\/p>\n
\u201cEnvision are doing a great job in repurposing used items \u2013 not just plastic \u2013 to help marginalised and low-socio economic groups.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Grimley said \u201cthe huge success\u201d of the St Vinnies Winter Appeal blanket drive during July inspired his team to support another charity from his Torquay office.<\/p>\n
