{"id":29826,"date":"2019-09-12T08:00:26","date_gmt":"2019-09-11T22:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=29826"},"modified":"2019-09-12T08:28:44","modified_gmt":"2019-09-11T22:28:44","slug":"the-hive-gallery-welcomes-its-first-international-artist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/living\/the-hive-gallery-welcomes-its-first-international-artist\/","title":{"rendered":"The Hive Gallery welcomes its first international artist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This month, The Hive Gallery in Ocean Grove is hosting its inaugural \u201cMonth of Sculpture\u201d exhibition in a bid to showcase the region\u2019s talented artists.<\/p>\n<p>Curated by Karen Spreadborough, the exhibition is set to become an annual event featuring bronze sculpture.<\/p>\n<p>Karen said the line-up includes the gallery\u2019s first international artist, Laura Jane Wylder, who The Hive team met at the Chelsea Flower Show in London.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLaura creates tranquil figurative works in bronze that we were drawn to upon meeting (her) this year at the Chelsea Flower Show in London,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will introduce the smaller maquette versions into the gallery. Larger versions are also available and make a focal point for a country garden or public space.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Talented photographer and award-winning contemporary sculptor Fiona Watson from Sydney will also exhibit several bronze pieces.<\/p>\n<p>Fiona holds a Bachelor of Fine Art from the National Art School and is the recipient of the Clyde &amp; Co Emerging Artist Award (2017).<\/p>\n<p>Lucy McEachern and Martin Goldin will also showcase new works, as well as new feature artist Dawn Robinson.<\/p>\n<p>This Saturday (September 14), Lucy McEachern, Martin Goldin, Dawn Robinson and Fiona Watson will be at the gallery to demonstrate their individual sculpting techniques.<\/p>\n<p>Guests are encouraged to come along and learn about the lost wax casting method, which is used to craft bronze sculptures.<\/p>\n<p>The Hive is located at 41 Smithton Grove, Ocean Grove and is open from Friday to Sunday.
