{"id":30007,"date":"2019-09-19T00:05:11","date_gmt":"2019-09-18T14:05:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=30007"},"modified":"2019-09-18T12:09:14","modified_gmt":"2019-09-18T02:09:14","slug":"hits-and-misses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/hits-and-misses\/","title":{"rendered":"Hits and misses for Torquay"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><strong>Tigers triumph in A Grade Netball, lose seniors and reserves grand finals<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>SATURDAY was a day of mixed sporting fortunes for Torquay, with the A Grade netballers winning the Bellarine Netball League premiership but the men&#8217;s football sides losing both the seniors and reserves grand finals.<br \/>\nIn the netball, a commanding performance by Torquay saw them take a slight advantage against Geelong Amateur in the first quarter but then pull away in the next two quarters to set up a comfortable finish, with the final scores 38-25.<br \/>\nCoach Courtney Cuolahan said she was delighted with style in which the team won.<br \/>\n&#8220;It was a real team effort. Everyone played their role on the day and to walk away with the premiership was so special.&#8221;<br \/>\nThe seniors gave it everything but came up short in the BFL grand final, as Barwon Heads defeated them 13.7 (85) to 10.11 (71).<br \/>\nSpeaking to local radio, Tigers coach and player Dom Gleeson said despite the disappointment, the club were in a good place.<br \/>\n&#8220;You only have to look back 12 months ago to when we didn\u2019t finish in the finals.&#8221;<br \/>\nTorquay were level with Barwon Heads at one stage in the second quarter, with both sides on 44 points.<br \/>\nBut they would never take the lead as the Seagulls pulled away to secure victory.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tigers triumph in A Grade Netball, lose seniors and reserves grand finals SATURDAY was a day of mixed sporting fortunes for Torquay, with the A Grade netballers winning the Bellarine Netball League premiership but the men&#8217;s football sides losing both the seniors and reserves grand finals.
