HAVING lived in Torquay for three decades, Scott Stevens\u2019 dream of opening a safety store in the 3228 postcode has finally come to fruition.<\/p>\n

Surf Coast Safety is an extension of Scott\u2019s existing safety business Purchasing Power, which has operated in Derrimut for about seven years.<\/p>\n

The new Torquay store \u2013 which is located next to the Subway carpark \u2013 aims to help the wider community as well as neighbouring businesses by stocking a range of workwear and personal protective equipment (PPE).<\/p>\n

Surf Coast Safety<\/a> will also offer an embroidery service as well as signs.<\/p>\n

With friends who work in the construction industry across the area, Scott and wife Wendy realised there\u2019s \u201cnever really been a safety store in Torquay\u201d.<\/p>\n

Scott said he discovered many people from Apollo Bay, Anglesea, Barwon Heads, Colac and Lorne were having to travel as far as Melbourne to purchase their safety supplies.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d been thinking about it for a number of years. The store will mean people won\u2019t have to drive to Geelong or further to get their workwear and safety needs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re a local business that\u2019s identified what\u2019s been missing in the local community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Scott and Wendy\u2019s three children, Prue, Kurt and Noni will also be involved in the business.<\/p>\n

Scott, who has a wealth of experience in safety, said he hopes to service big and small businesses in the local area.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you need a safety product, we can get it. We now have a pair of quick dry work shorts which are surfer friendly. (We are) offering a wide variety of quality workwear and PPE.\u201d<\/p>\n

Surf Coast Safety will also sponsor and support Torquay\u2019s sporting clubs.<\/p>\n
