{"id":30227,"date":"2019-09-26T08:00:27","date_gmt":"2019-09-25T22:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=30227"},"modified":"2019-11-20T11:02:34","modified_gmt":"2019-11-20T01:02:34","slug":"parks-vic-kids-program_web","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/parks-vic-kids-program_web\/","title":{"rendered":"Parks Vic kids program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\">PARKS Victoria is inviting children and their families to join in a range of fun and educational outdoor activities for the upcoming school holidays.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\">These include a range of activities hosted by rangers that encourage children aged six to 12 to get outdoors and learn more about Victoria&#8217;s environment and cultural heritage.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\">These events will be held across the state, but even if you are unable to make it to them Parks Victoria has organised a Spring Bioblitz on October 3 and 4.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\">A Bioblitz is a self-guided event where participants simply head to a local park or nature reserve and take some photos of the plants and wildlife with their camera or smartphone.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\">They then upload the photos to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.inaturalist.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>www.inaturalist.org<\/b><\/a><b> <\/b>where they act as important information for scientists looking for data on certain regions and species.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\">Parks Victoria education and interpretation officer James Adams says these types of activities are fantastic for getting kids and adults to explore nature.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\">\u201cThe Spring Bioblitz is all about fostering kids\u2019 natural enthusiasm for discovery by providing a fun, hands-on opportunity to contribute to nature conservation.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\">&#8220;The data collected will be used by Parks Victoria\u2019s science team to better understand the amazing diversity of life within our parks which will help us protect it.\u201d<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\">All the activities being run by Parks Victoria are free, but bookings are necessary and a parent or guardian must always accompany the child.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\">To book or find more information, head to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/juniorrangers.com.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>juniorrangers.com.au<\/b><\/a>.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: medium;\">Parks Victoria can also be called on 13 1963 for more information.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PARKS Victoria is inviting children and their families to join in a range of fun and educational outdoor activities for the upcoming school holidays.
