{"id":30334,"date":"2019-09-26T00:05:46","date_gmt":"2019-09-25T14:05:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=30334"},"modified":"2019-09-25T15:12:27","modified_gmt":"2019-09-25T05:12:27","slug":"meet-some-of-geelongs-wonderful-humans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/meet-some-of-geelongs-wonderful-humans\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet some of Geelong\u2019s wonderful humans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE varied and remarkable human face of Geelong is about to be showcased in all its glory at Deakin University\u2019s Waterfront Campus.<br \/>\nFrom Bollywood and Salsa dancing to Medimime, from Piano Bar to mediaeval crusaders, the Humans in Geelong Expo will be a colourful pantheon of the city\u2019s human resources, assets, changemakers and talents.<\/p>\n<p>Songwriters, pet lovers, wild drummers, artists, authors, social entrepreneurs, community groups \u2013 all up, 50 exhibitors, 12 thought-provoking speakers and another 12 uplifting culturally diverse performances.<\/p>\n<p>On top of that, the Humans in Geelong Expo will have free face-painting, henna, apples, the Geelong Crusaders, the CRAG (Combined Refugee Action Group) conversation tent, the Orange Sky Laundry van and the St Leonards Men\u2019s Shed making free bird-boxes with kids.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is going to be another absolutely fabulous event celebrating Geelong\u2019s amazing wealth of human beings,\u201d expo organiser Jacqui Bennett said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s like a huge party, with everyone welcome and something for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said the chief idea of the event was to inspire, connect, and strengthen the community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChris Lytas is from The Man Walk Geelong. He\u2019ll be talking on making people comfortable with speaking about the uncomfortable and why storytelling is key to normalising the conversation around mental health.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also have Cathy Roth talking about PALZ \u2013 Professionals with Alzheimer\u2019s \u2013 along with Louise Day from Dementia Australia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe wonderful Chloe Hayden, aka Princess Aspien, is talking on autism and creating a fairytale within your circumstances, and also helping others to find their happily ever after.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt 11am hear from the Human Library, made up of refugees and new arrivals.
