	{"id":30355,"date":"2019-09-26T08:00:36","date_gmt":"2019-09-25T22:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=30355"},"modified":"2019-11-20T11:01:15","modified_gmt":"2019-11-20T01:01:15","slug":"winchelsea-playground","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/winchelsea-playground\/","title":{"rendered":"Winchelsea playground"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Surf Coast Shire is holding a community drop in session next week to gather feedback about the future of Winchelsea&#8217;s Barwon River Playground.<\/p>\n<p>The playground was constructed in 2001, and has been well-used by locals since.<\/p>\n<p>It is now due for replacement as part of the council&#8217;s 2019\/20 Asset Renewal Program.<\/p>\n<p>At Tuesday&#8217;s council meeting, the council received a petition signed by 351 people requesting that the project be halted until the community is properly consulted.<\/p>\n<p>Surf Coast general manager of culture and community Chris Pike said he believed the community would continue to benefit from the playground.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We know the Barwon River playground is loved by locals and visitors to Winchelsea. Now that it&#8217;s due for replacement, we&#8217;ve been working with the community on options for new equipment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve worked with a group of locals to develop a draft concept for the playground. The aim is to provide a playground that&#8217;s fun for youngsters and a great spot for families&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The playground&#8217;s distinctive artwork will also be retained.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Pike said the community will also have their say on how this artwork is used.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re working with the community on what&#8217;s next for the artwork. It could be installed on panels at the new playground, or perhaps it could be donated to a community group.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If you&#8217;re a local with a great idea on how it could be used, we&#8217;d love to hear it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Working with a group of local stakeholders, the council has developed a draft concept for the playground&#8217;s renewal.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to a new play unit, this concept includes a basket swing, and tree planting within the play space.<\/p>\n<p>Construction on the playground is scheduled to begin in October or November this year.<\/p>\n<p>The drop in session on Monday, September 30 will begin at 10am and will allow people to view the designs and give their feedback.<\/p>\n<p>They can also do this online until Friday, October 4.
