THE course details for the Torquay event that will officially lead into next year\u2019s Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race (CEGORR) have been revealed.<\/p>\n

Locked in for January 30, Towards Zero Race Torquay is expected to attract the world\u2019s leading professional men\u2019s and women\u2019s cycling teams, showcasing the Surf Coast on an international scale.<\/p>\n

The course consists of multiple laps of a 13km circuit, a route that has been planned to circle the township of Torquay and will start and finish on The Esplanade.<\/p>\n

Female cyclists will pedal through eight laps (104km), while their male counterparts will race an extra two laps, upping their total distance to 130km.<\/p>\n

Heading in a clockwise direction, riders will travel along Bell Street, the Great Ocean Road, Duffields and Messmate roads, before journeying back via South Beach Road, Horseshoe Bend Road and The Esplanade.<\/p>\n

Held on a semi-closed circuit, traffic management will be on site to restrict vehicle access along its path. The Surf Coast Shire is working alongside Visit Victoria, Regional Roads Victoria and Victoria Police to develop a safe course, while also minimising disruptions for locals, traders and visitors.<\/p>\n

Motorists will be able to travel in and out of Torquay throughout the event\u2019s duration, but some delays are expected while the races are in progress. The council will continue to provide updates and information on how people can get involved in the event.<\/p>\n

South Barwon MP Darren Cheeseman said he was pleased to learn all riders will be competing for an equal share in prize money.<\/p>\n

\u201cTowards Zero Race Torquay is a fantastic addition to the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race \u2013 what a great reason for visitors to extend their stay in our beautiful region,” Mr Cheeseman said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis course will challenge the best riders in the world while providing a stunning backdrop for spectators.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following Race Torquay, the Family Ride will be held on January 31, the People\u2019s Ride and Elite Women\u2019s Road Race on February 1, and the Elite Men\u2019s Road Race on February 2.<\/p>\n
