TORQUAY College hosted Surf Coast Energy Group\u2019s (SCEG) fourth annual Solar Cup Educational Challenge last week.<\/p>\n

This year the challenge saw pupils from Torquay P-6 College and Deans Marsh Primary School race their own solar-powered boats.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

A total of 19 teams and 55 pupils competed in the event, racing their boats against one another.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

SCEG ran the challenge for the first time at Aireys Inlet Primary School in 2016, and have expanded it since.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The challenge aims to encourage teamwork and hands-on learning, while also developing students\u2019 interest in clean and renewable energy, helping them to understand both its importance and its potential.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Pupils work in groups to research science and engineering principles related to solar energy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n
