A TORQUAY business has been recognised at the 2019 Regional Achievement and Community Awards.<\/p>\n

\n

Braille Sign Supplies of Torquay were presented the Regional Development Victoria Business Achievement Award at the event, held at Flemington Racecourse earlier this month.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The business began after director Travis Ashford observed that many of the Braille signs available were either very expensive or failed to comply with Australian Standards.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

They have grown rapidly since their formation, and now supply signs for schools, hospitals and airports across the country.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The business\u00a0has also done some work in New Zealand and Fiji.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\n

Mr Ashford said he was pleased to see his business receive the acknowledgement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“It’s good to get the recognition. It’s definitely still growing.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Earlier in the year, Braille Sign Supplies were named the winner of the Regional Business category at the Geelong Excellence Awards.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

At the awards, Geelong’s Jean Nelson received the Life Activities Clubs Victoria Senior Achievement Award.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Ms Nelson has spent more than 20 years volunteering for those with debilitating illnesses.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\n

She is a life member of community hospice Anam Cara House Geelong, where she has volunteered frequently, providing palliative respite and end of life care.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Art of the Minds Torquay were also one of the four nominees in the Regional Development Victoria Leadership & Innovation Award.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
