	{"id":31080,"date":"2019-10-24T00:00:41","date_gmt":"2019-10-23T14:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=31080"},"modified":"2020-10-07T13:21:56","modified_gmt":"2020-10-07T03:21:56","slug":"falls-opens-arms-to-community-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/living\/falls-opens-arms-to-community-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"Falls opens arms to community projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Falls Festival has announced it is now accepting applications for the 2019 Community Fund. <\/p>\n<p>The program \u2013 which has supported projects including Lorne School P-12, Lorne Kindergarten, Lorne Football and Netball Club, Lorne Historical Society and Carols for Lorne \u2013 will see $1 from every ticket sold invested in resident-voted local projects. <\/p>\n<p>In a statement released on behalf of the festival, organisers said the event remained committed to \u201cbreaking local and international music\u201d while also contributing to environmental sustainability. <\/p>\n<p>Since its inaugural outdoor party in 1993, Falls has banned plastic bottles, created 100 per cent composting toilets, established water harvesting facilities using on-site dams, upcycled waste into reusable art, adopted carbon offsetting measures, offered carpooling rewards for drivers, switched to organic packaging and introduced educational activities which run over the festival\u2019s duration. <\/p>\n<p>The festival diverted 46 per cent of waste from landfill at its events in Lorne, Marion Bay, Byron Bay and Fremantle last year. This year\u2019s event will see the festival continue its support of B Alternative and Green Music Australia. <\/p>\n<p>Applications for the Community Fund close at 5pm tomorrow (Friday, October 25).
