Participants are equipped in firefighting gear along with a HTC Vive virtual reality headset, a tracking instrument that imitates a high pressure hose in VR, including feedback to simulate water force, and a jacket with built-in heating units to imitate the heat increase when nearing a fire.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>This means the trainee is immersed in a situation where they can see and feel the fire as well as the pressure from the hose.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>FLAIM System&#8217;s provide a method of training firefighters that is not only completely safe but that can be delivered globally.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>They have grown out of ManuFutures, Deakin University&#8217;s Waurn Ponds manufacturing and innovation hub, and now provide their training in places in 14 different countries.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The system is not only advanced in the immersive experience it enables, but also the data it provides.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Instructors are also able to monitor respiration and air usage, and effectiveness of firefighting operations, a world first in the industry.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>To view the full list of award winners, head to <a href=\"http:\/\/global.vic.gov.au\/govea\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">global.vic.gov.au\/govea<\/a>.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE 40th Governor of Victoria Export Awards (GOVEA) were held earlier in the month, with Waurn Ponds-based FLAIM Systems receiving the Small Business Award.
