The Anglesea and District War Memorial Committee have launched their fundraiser appeal.<\/p>\n

\n

The committee is looking to fund a war memorial to honour those who served their country. Their aim is to raise $65,000.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Anglesea and District Historical Society’s Keith Hornibrook played a key role in initiating the project, and is pleased with the progress being made, as well as the support the project has been getting.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“The idea of it was started back when we did the roundabout, which is probably about three years now.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“I rang the RSL at the time to see if they would be interested, and they were. So they took it up from that point and got the approvals for it.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

At the Surf Coast Shire’s September 24 council meeting, councillors resolved to give their support to the project though the Community Project Development plan.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The memorial will be located in Cameron Park, opposite the shopping centre.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

It is planned to be a simple wall made of sandstone local to Aireys Inlet.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

People are invited to nominate names for inclusion on the memorial. These nominations will be open until the end of March next year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
