AVALON Airport recently became the first airport in Australia to be granted permanent approval to use a CT scanner able to create three-dimensional images of passengers’ luggage.<\/p>\n

The Rapiscan 920CT, which is being trialled by several international airports across Australia, helps increase security and efficiency.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Avalon chief executive officer Justin Giddings said the technology had benefits for all involved.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
“It provides a clear view for security staff whilst saving passengers the bother of having to remove their laptops from their bags.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
“We’re always aiming to improve efficiency for our passengers, and are pleased that we can do so, whilst at the same time ensuring top quality security procedures.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Avalon’s international terminal also includes the Rohde and Schwarz Body Scanner, which allows for several people to be scanned at once.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Avalon Airport intends to introduce the CT scanner to its domestic terminal next year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
The airport also recently announced a partnership with Vietnamese airline Vietjet Air, as Avalon looks to grow its international operations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
The tie-up will see Vietnam’s largest airline operate services between Avalon and Ho Chi Minh City from the second half of 2020.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Avalon Airport executive chair David Fox said he was delighted with the confidence of Vietjet in Avalon as a future gateway to Melbourne and the Geelong region.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
“Ho Chi Minh City will be the first Vietnamese connection, but we’ll hope to expand this to other cities, such as Hanoi and Da Nang, in the future.”<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
