THE Torquay Returned and Services League (RSL) recently received a grant from the state government.<\/p>\n

\n

They were given $12,000 as part of the government’s Member Welfare program.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Torquay RSL president Bob Tyler said the grant would be a great benefit to many people involved with the club.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“Hopefully, we will be able to support some home exercise programs, arrange occasional veterans’ lunches and visits to various commemorative sites on day outings. Social interaction is a key way to overcome social isolation and is something our welfare officers work hard at.”<\/span><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

“We will also be able to provide some financial assistance to any veterans struggling with gas and electricity payments.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Mr Tyler said that grants determined how much the c could help veterans in the community.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“Grants like this one from the Victorian ANZAC Day Proceeds Fund are vital for the wellbeing of all veterans from those who served in World War Two to those still serving in overseas conflicts.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

South Barwon MP Darren Cheeseman said he was delighted to see the Torquay RSL given the grant.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“This funding is a wonderful thing for the Torquay RSL that does amazing work supporting our veterans \u2013 they deserve an extra helping hand.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“We must never forget the service of our veterans \u2013 they are the reason we enjoy the freedoms we do today.”<\/div>\n

The grants also saw $12,000 given to the Geelong Legacy Club to pay heating bills for disadvantaged Legacy widows. $1.4 million was split between 84 projects.<\/span><\/div>\n
