Western District singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Dave Steel is coming home for a special COPACC outreach concert at Apollo Bay next week.<\/p>\n
Steel, accompanied by fiddle player Ross Smithard, is promising a spontaneous show at the Apollo Bay Surf Lifesaving Club on November 29, as befits a performance by two veterans thoroughly at ease with their music.<\/p>\n
Apollo Bay pop duo The Fillmore Brothers will open for Dave and Ross, setting the scene for an awesome night of original, home-grown music.<\/p>\n
The Colac Otway Performing Arts and Cultural Centre (COPACC) has enlisted the help of the Apollo Bay Surf Lifesaving Club for bar services, and all proceeds from drinks sold on the night will go directly to the club.<\/p>\n
COPACC manager Tamzin McLennan said she hoped people would turn up in their numbers to support two accomplished local acts.<\/p>\n
\u201cDave has an extensive history in the Australian roots music scene, and was a founding member of Weddings, Parties, Anything,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s made nine solo albums and received several ARIA nominations, as well as worked as a sideman for many of Australia\u2019s biggest names including Archie Roach.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms McLennan said The Fillmore Brothers were household names in Apollo Bay, and were this year signed to Brown Truck Records.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile the Fillmore Brothers are now based in Melbourne, we were thrilled to be able to lure them back to the Bay for this night, and we think they\u2019ll set a cracking tone for Dave and Ross to follow.\u201d<\/p>\n
Doors open at 7.30pm with The Fillmore Brothers performing at 8pm for about 45 minutes, before Dave and Ross take over at 9pm.<\/p>\n
