Artists from the Geelong region recently had their creative and inclusive works displayed at an exhibition timed to correlate with International Day of People with Disability (IDPWD).<\/p>\n
Through My Eyes showcased a series of works by more than 100 established and emerging artists with a disability.<\/p>\n
The event \u2013 which was part of the City of Greater Geelong\u2019s IDPWD celebrations \u2013 saw people in the community share personal stories and insights on current affairs and pop culture.<\/p>\n
Councillor Sarah Mansfield, chair of the city\u2019s social inclusion portfolio, said the exhibition helped raise public awareness about the contributions and aspirations of people with a disability.<\/p>\n
\u201cCouncil is proud to support International Day of People with Disability, an important day that showcases the talents and viewpoints of locals who have a lived experience of disability,\u201d Cr Mansfield said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe local artists involved should feel proud of their artistic achievements.\u201d<\/p>\n
Other free activities held across the region for IDPWD included a film and tech festival, music, art, workshops, library readings and a business breakfast.<\/p>\n
All proceeds of sales from the exhibition were directed to the artist or the inclusive art studio that supports them with their professional creative practice.<\/p>\n
Geelong mayor Stephanie Asher said the COGG had supported IDPWD since 1996 and was excited to have hosted Through My Eyes as part of this year\u2019s celebrations.<\/p>\n
