ALL abilities band The Rockheads performed in Torquay last week for the Surf Coast Shire\u2019s International Day for People with Disabilities event.<\/p>\n

The council chamber was full for the performance, with people from across the community as well as several councillors and council staff in attendance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

People clapped and tapped along to the band\u2019s feel good songs, with many also singing along when the band played \u201cWe are The Rockheads\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Barwon based band initially began as a short-term project, but decided they wanted to continue creating music together and have now been practicing and performing for more than three years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Members come from the Geelong area, the Surf Coast and the Golden Plains.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The band aims to make music accessible to young people with disabilities, while also helping them be more involved in the community.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The event also included a talk from disability and queer rights activist Jax Jacki Brown, as well as lunch by dal Catering, which looks to provide employment opportunities for adults with special needs.<\/div>\n
