SOME of the most notorious roads and intersections around Geelong and the Surf Coast are set to undergo major safety updates next year.<\/p>\n
South Barwon MP Darren Cheeseman announced last week that $226 million worth of upgrades would be carried out across regional roads next year, with hundreds of new projects funded as part of the initiative.<\/p>\n
The upgrades happening locally include:<\/p>\n
\u2022 Several kilometres of safety barriers are being installed along the Surf Coast Highway to prevent head on and run off road crashes. The works began in August this year and are slated to be complete by Christmas
\n\u2022 Rumble strip line marking will be installed along Barrabool Road, Cape Otway Road and others to alert drivers if they begin to veer out of their lane
\n\u2022 Intersection warning signs and line marking will be at the Anglesea Road and Blackgate Road intersection. Tree trimming is also set to take place
\n\u2022 Anglesea, Reservoir and Whites roads: Installation of intersection warning signs, line marking, and a flashing warning sign on Anglesea Road activated by approaching vehicles on Reservoir Road. Closure of Whites Road (subject to community consultation) and remodel of roadside drainage
\n\u2022 Installation of 80km\/h speed limit reduction for Mount Duneed Road, line marking and vegetation removal. Installation of rumble strips on both approaches of Ghazeepore Road.
\n\u2022 Cape Otway Road, Drewry Lane and Mt Duneed Road: Installation of intersection warning signs, installation of 80 km\/h speed limit reduction along Mt Duneed Road to include the intersection and extend the existing right turn lane from the west with line marking
\n\u2022 Great Ocean Road and Bells Beach Road: Installation of 80 km\/h speed limit reduction to include the intersection, installation of a concrete splitter island on Bells Beach Road and upgrade eastbound bypass right turning lane to dedicated right turn lane by line marking, and
\n\u2022 Cape Otway Road and Reservoir Road: installation of side road activated speed signs.<\/p>\n
