THE Modewarre Netball Club will have a familiar face take over the coaching role in 2020.<\/p>\n

Kath Vickers has played at Modewarre and coached various junior sides for five years. She was part of premiership winning sides in 2017 and 2018 and was also named in the BFNL Netball Team of the Year for 2019.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Vickers said she was aware of the challenges the team faced but was confident in overcoming them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
“We only have an hour-and-a-half on a Thursday and then your Saturday, so you don’t see each other as often as you would like to.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
“We’ll try and do lots of bonding stuff at the start of the season to establish those really strong relationships. Then from there you can start to create great things on the netball court because people trust each other and that takes some time to build.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Despite knowing the team will take time to reach their best, Vickers said she was eager for the club to be ambitious.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
“I’m going to set the bar really high and think we’ll make the grand final.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Being a small community, Modewarre does not have a lot of players to draw upon.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Having coached the Under 17 side for the past two years, Vickers is optimistic about the young talents that are now breaking into the side. But she also believes the club’s good reputation will help significantly when recruiting.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
“We’ve had lots of girls come from the country who have heard great things about Modda.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
“They’ve heard about us through the grapevine, so we’re picking up some players that way and also chatting to potential recruits.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Vickers also said that with a catchment area smaller than most of her side’s opponents, Modewarre is an ideal club for juniors to consider joining if they want time on the court.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Modewarre made the preliminary final last year, having finished fourth in the home and away season.<\/div>\n
