A HISTORICALLY significant building situated on Geelong\u2019s waterfront has undergone an exciting transformation, with its completion adding a new caf\u00e9 to the city\u2019s food map.<\/p>\n
The City of Greater Geelong-owned Beach House pavilion at Eastern Beach re-opened its doors on Monday last week \u2013 three years since its sudden closure in April 2016.<\/p>\n
Now under operation by Melbourne-based hospitality company the Mulberry Group, the caf\u00e9 and takeaway kiosk will operate daily across the summer holidays.
\nThe building\u2019s second level, which offers sweeping views of the waterfront, will be used as a function space for private events.<\/p>\n
General manager Sam Slattery said the group aimed to enhance the building by bringing it to life.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s an amazing location, right on the beach, the history behind Eastern Beach and the Beach House.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe upstairs function area is just incredible with the waterfront views \u2013 it\u2019s just an amazing spot to be able to come to work every day.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Mulberry Group has enjoyed success in Melbourne, having established Top Paddock, Higher Ground and Three Bags Full.<\/p>\n
It now runs the Common Ground Project in Freshwater Creek, as well as Liminal in Melbourne\u2019s CBD.<\/p>\n
Geelong mayor Stephanie Asher said it was \u201cabsolutely fantastic\u201d to have the building back.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been a missing element in the Geelong waterfront scene, and I certainly think that people have missed the iconic building that this is.<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving a renowned caf\u00e9 operator take control of the Beach House will be a major drawcard for residents and visitors alike.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Slattery said the Beach House would be open seven nights a week during summer, with the kiosk dishing up fare until 9pm.<\/p>\n
