MULTIPLE roads between Birregurra and Dean’s Marsh are now closed to facilitate the construction of a new roundabout.<\/p>\n

\n

Work is underway on the intersection of Birregurra-Forrest Road, Colac-Lorne Road and Deepdene Road.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Regional Roads Victoria (RRV) says that since January 2014 there have been seven accidents at the intersection, resulting in 21 injuries and one fatality. Three of these happened between December 24-28, 2017.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

After these accidents, people from nearby communities held a rally demanding improved safety. Some temporary measures, such as warning signs and the removal of trees to improve line of sight, were taken while a long-term strategy was devised.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Until early to mid-February, Colac-Lorne Road and Deepdene Road will only be open to local traffic to the east and west of the intersection.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Signs have been placed to show people the appropriate detours.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Motorists are advised to allow for up to 20 minutes extra travelling time.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
