THE Torquay Community Men\u2019s Shed has again created a message of hope to be part of the opening ceremony of next year\u2019s Relay for Life.<\/p>\n
Surf Coast Relay for Life co-chair Magdalena Wheatland said one of the four HOPE letters created by the Men\u2019s Shed would be given to each of the four local schools, so art students could colourfully illustrate them using the theme of \u201cActivities along the Great Ocean Road\u201d and unveil them at the event in Torquay North.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are very grateful to the Men\u2019s Shed for the letters they have handcrafted, and we are really looking forward to the finished designs on the letters of HOPE.<\/p>\n
\u201cHOPE is something Relay for Life around the world promotes each year in its annual events raising funds for Cancer Council research.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said there were 10 teams of walkers already registered for the Surf Coast Relay for Life, which will be held to be held at the Polwarth Oval on March 16-17.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe do expect to have many more teams registered before the event, which will give Torquay another great chance to raise several thousand dollars for what is a most worthwhile cause in which our community can take part.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis year we would like to see active involvement from our community, clubs, organisations and local businesses to enter teams in the relay or even decide to help with sponsorships and gifts in kind to help with our auction on the day.\u201d<\/p>\n
