THE Surf Coast Shire council has committed to apply for funding for both the Mt Moriac Netball and Tennis Pavilion and the Barwon River Adventure Play Space in Winchelsea.<\/p>\n

The council’s submission will go to the Victorian Government’s 2020-21 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund. Their application would see the state government and council share the costs of the two projects.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Plans for the Mount Moriac Netball and Tennis Pavilion would provide female change facilities, an umpire’s room, an accessible toilet and shower, an upgraded kitchen, first aid areas and a new kitchen.<\/div>\n

Cr James McIntyre said these changes would help make the club more inclusive.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“One of the key elements of the proposed upgrade is improved facilities for females, which will be very welcome by existing players, and will support the club in attracting greater numbers of female participants.”<\/div>\n

The cost of this project is estimated to be $930,000, with the council asking for $500,000 from the state government. They would then provide $400,000 themselves, with the Modewarre Football Netball Club providing the remain $30,000.<\/div>\n

The other program council has advocated for would see an adventure play space built on Barwon Terrace between the existing playground and Winchelsea Pool.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Cr McIntyre said this project similarly looked to provide physical activities for a broader range of people.<\/div>\n

“The goal of the Barwon River Adventure Play Space is to provide a challenging play experience for older children. At the same time, it will support all abilities access \u2013 one way it will do this is by linking to the existing playground which will receive a new accessible basket swing.”<\/div>\n

“The concept design includes trampolines, climbing and balancing structures, community artwork and potentially a flying fox \u2013 all of which would be integrated into the slope of the riverbank.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
