GEELONG\u2019S status as a UNESCO City of Design will be personified through a range of activities next month when the city hosts its inaugural Geelong Design Week.<\/p>\n

More than 80 events including exhibitions, workshops, tours, projections, pop-up shops and a symposium are all locked in to showcase why the city is Australia\u2019s first to receive the coveted title. <\/p>\n

The program, which was unveiled last week, explores local creative and cultural talents, the region\u2019s Indigenous heritage and inspires conversation about the landscape of Geelong into the future. <\/p>\n

Debuting with the theme \u201cDoing it Differently\u201d, Geelong Design Week 2020 will highlight Geelong\u2019s heritage as well as clever designs that have been used to find new solutions to today\u2019s infrastructure challenges. <\/p>\n

Geelong mayor Stephanie Asher said she was looking forward to seeing the high-calibre events featured in the inaugural program. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019ll be much to explore and experience \u2013 from exhibitions, technology and workshops, to conversations around innovation and sustainable cities and discovering how our unique creative heritage is shaping our design driven future. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a fantastic celebration of Geelong\u2019s creative and design talents and we thank everyone who has thrown their support behind it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The event categories for Geelong Design Week include:
\n\u2022 Technology, innovation and manufacturing
\n\u2022 Culture and heritage
\n\u2022 Social and community services
\n\u2022 Architecture, landscape and built environment
\n\u2022 Learning, knowledge and research
\n\u2022 Environment and sustainability
\n\u2022 Food and gastronomy
\n\u2022 Art, craft, visual communication and multimedia. <\/p>\n
