TORQUAY Community House will be hosting a witch-themed lunch next month to raise funds for children and women who are victims of domestic violence.<\/p>\n

All are invited to come along with their finest witch hats and cloaks to help raise money at 12.30pm on March 13.<\/p>\n

The money will go to the South East Women and Children’s Services Eurobodalla Domestic and Family Violence Service.<\/p>\n

The service is run in one of the region’s worst affected by bushfires in Victoria.<\/p>\n

Torquay Community House’s Palila Opit says many people using the service who have already moved because of domestic violence are now having to relocate again due to the fires.<\/p>\n

“There are many women and children who use that service to escape family violence, and now they’ve been further displaced by the fires because the emergency housing and special services are going to people who have lost their homes in the fires.”<\/p>\n

All the funds will go to a therapeutic swing, which Ms Opit says the centre has specifically asked for.<\/p>\n

“One of the things they think would be really helpful was this play equipment so the children who are stuck at the centre have a more engaging and fun thing to do while they’re waiting for the next section of their lives to begin.”<\/p>\n

The day will include food and drink, a raffle, surprise entertainment and a silent auction.<\/p>\n

Local businesses have donated a range of items for the auction, but Torquay Community House is still eager to accept any more donations from people and businesses wanting to contribute.<\/p>\n

The event will be held at the Senior Citizens Hall on 16 Price Street, Torquay, next to Torquay Community House.<\/p>\n
