TORQUAY Men’s Shed recently donated a unique gift to Star of the Sea Torquay’s aged care centre.<\/p>\n
The shed assembled a collection of antique tools to create a memory board.<\/p>\n
The idea for the memory board came from shed member Trevor Sawyer, who the project was particularly dear to, as both his parents are in the aged care centre.<\/p>\n
Mr Sawyer said he got the idea from a different aged care centre he and his wife visited.<\/p>\n
“I’d been with my wife to see an aunt of hers up the country and they had these things that they called memory boards that had a similar idea there.”<\/p>\n
Mr Sawyer primarily put the board together with the held of fellow Men’s Shed member Ron Moore.<\/p>\n
Many of the tools on the board were donated to the Torquay Men’s Shed. With some tools likely almost a century old, they had little practical use but plenty of historic value.<\/p>\n
They include some old shears, and a bark spud, used to remove bark from felled timber.<\/p>\n
Mr Sawyer said many of the tools would have specific significance for Star of the Sea residents.<\/p>\n
“Some of the blokes down there might remember using them in the past. It’s just something to give back to the community.”<\/p>\n
He said making it at the Men’s Shed even sparked a few memories for some of the members.<\/p>\n
“Many of the older guys remember them from their uncles on farms and that sort of thing.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
