{"id":35517,"date":"2020-03-12T00:08:10","date_gmt":"2020-03-11T14:08:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=35517"},"modified":"2020-03-11T10:14:24","modified_gmt":"2020-03-11T00:14:24","slug":"flourishing-families-geelong-april","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/flourishing-families-geelong-april\/","title":{"rendered":"Flourishing Families course to return in April"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PARENTS are invited to join a free program, based on new research, that promotes family growth and wellbeing.<\/p>\n<p>The City of Greater Geelong initiated a partnership with the Institute of Positive Education \u00ad- a training and research centre based at Geelong Grammar &#8211; to deliver the four-week Flourishing Families course.<\/p>\n<p>The next program is set to start in April.<\/p>\n<p>Participants will learn practical positive psychology skills to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Promote resilience<\/li>\n<li>Increase awareness of character strengths<\/li>\n<li>Nurture and sustain positive relationships<\/li>\n<li>Give effective feedback and support individual growth, and<\/li>\n<li>Explore their family values and shared goals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A trained facilitator from the city&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geelongaustralia.com.au\/parenting\/article\/item\/8cdc0dbadf52826.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Regional Parenting Service<\/a> will lead the evening sessions, which include presentations and group discussions.<\/p>\n<p>The program launched late last year and received praise from participants.<\/p>\n<p>Encouragingly, many reported a positive shift in their relationships within the family unit.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Supporting families is a core service of the City of Greater Geelong,&#8221; Geelong mayor Stephanie Asher said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sharing knowledge in a casual setting is a great way to embrace new ideas.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We can always learn something about parenting, the world is changing so quickly!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The program comprises weekly evening sessions that run for about two hours each.<\/p>\n<p>Numbers are capped at 15 participants.<\/p>\n<p>To register your interest, phone the Regional Parenting Service on 5272 4741 or email rps@geelongcity.vic.gov.au.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PARENTS are invited to join a free program, based on new research, that promotes family growth and wellbeing.
