{"id":35637,"date":"2020-03-17T11:47:18","date_gmt":"2020-03-17T01:47:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=35637"},"modified":"2020-03-17T14:02:15","modified_gmt":"2020-03-17T04:02:15","slug":"shire-centre-libraries-closed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/shire-centre-libraries-closed\/","title":{"rendered":"Surf Coast Shire to close health centres today, libraries and city facilities to close tomorrow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Surf Coast Shire has just announced it will temporarily close Surf Coast Sport &amp; Recreation Centre and Winchelsea Health Club from 2pm today until further notice in response to the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Geelong Regional Library Corporation (GRLC) will close all library branches and mobile libraries tomorrow (at the usual branch closing time) until at least April 14, and the City of Greater Geelong will also close several of its public facilities from close of business tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>Programs affected at the Surf Coast Sport &amp; Recreation Centre at this time are:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Group fitness classes<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Netball: both Senior &amp; Junior<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Net Set Go and Net Set GOGO<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Futsal<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Kindergym<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Occasional Care.<\/p>\n<p>The shire says the health and safety of its valued members, customers and staff is its number one priority.<\/p>\n<p>For any booking enquiries during this time, email Marty Stewart at mstewart@surfcoast.vic.gov.au<\/p>\n<p>During this time, overdue fines from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grlc.vic.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">GRLC<\/a> will be suspended for the immediate future.<\/p>\n<p>If you have items due for return within this period, you can renew items online or return items via one of the branch external return chutes which are open 24\/7. You can also contact your local branch directly by phone.<\/p>\n<p>The City of Greater Geelong will close several of its public facilities from close of business tomorrow until at least April 1 to reduce social contact in an attempt to prevent the local spread of coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>The city has decided to close public access to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Swim, sport and leisure centres (Leisurelink, Waterworld, Splashdown, Bellarine Aquatic and Sport Centre, Kardinia Pool and Lara Pool)<\/li>\n<li>Sport and recreation stadiums (The Geelong Arena, Barwon Valley Activity Centre, Corio Leisuretime Centre)<\/li>\n<li>Potato Shed<\/li>\n<li>National Wool Museum, and<\/li>\n<li>The Carousel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Employees and tenants will continue to have access to the listed facilities.<\/p>\n<p>The city will continue to provide general customer service, but will no longer offer the services over the counter.<\/p>\n<p>The following services will now be offered by phone and online:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Customer Service \u2013 including building services and statutory planning services, and<\/li>\n<li>Visitor Information Centres.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The decision about the impact on these services will be reviewed by the end of March.<\/p>\n<p>Swim, Sport and Leisure memberships will be immediately suspended.<\/p>\n<p>The city\u2019s action in is line with the declaration of a State of Emergency in Victoria by the Victorian Government on Monday, and are being guided by health advice and its Influenza Pandemic Response Plan 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The plan has been recently updated in accordance with the state\u2019s plan and with consideration to the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Potential actions regarding the city\u2019s services and facilities will be reviewed as more information comes to hand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an unprecedented move, but it is vital that we aim to \u2018flatten the curve\u2019 and minimise the spread of the outbreak,\u201d Geelong mayor Stephanie Asher said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe appreciate the inconvenience to our community members and recognise that the disruptions are not ideal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, all of our decisions are focused around doing what is best for the health of our community, volunteers and employees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are considering a number of measures to support our community and businesses in the municipality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will keep a regular stream of information about how we can help and what changes are being put in place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe greatly appreciate the support and community effort to address the pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The city has established a \u2018Coronavirus Support\u2019 page, which includes information and details on the impacts to events, facilities and city services across the region.
