THE federal government has approved up to $110,000 in spending to help fund two new memorial cairns for Winchelsea.
\nThe Winchelsea RSL had been seeking the funding for two further memorial cairns to commemorate service men and women in World War II and other conflicts.
\nThey will be built in the town\u2019s centre in the Winchelsea Walk of Honour and next to the World War I memorial, which the federal government contributed funding to in 2016 as part of the $155,000 beautification project.
\nVictorian Senator Sarah Henderson said she looked forward to seeing work on the project start.
\n\u201cThis is a big win for the Winchelsea community and delivers on a 2019 election commitment made by the Morrison Government.
\n\u201cThe project will see two memorial cairns installed acknowledging Winchelsea service men and women who served in World War II and other conflicts.
\n\u201cThe World War I memorial cairn is really beautiful and has resonated so positively in the community. I know how much this project means to local veterans and their families.
\n\u201cThe Winchelsea RSL has done a magnificent job in developing this memorial.
\n\u201cI also wish to commend Cr Heather Wellington, who has been such a strong advocate for this project.\u201d
\nSenator Henderson said she was proud that the Morrison Liberal Government had delivered much for the Winchelsea community, including helping deliver the Princes Highway duplication through to Colac, providing $6 million to build a safer intersection at Cape Otway Road and Winchelsea-Deans Marsh Road, and investing in improved mobile and broadband telecommunications.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
