THE Barwon region\u2019s natural born leaders are being encouraged to diversify their skillsets by taking part in a new program spearheaded by four local government bodies.<\/p>\n

The City of Greater Geelong, Surf Coast Shire, Golden Plains Shire and Colac Otway Shire have joined forces to deliver Regional Youth Voice, an initiative which has been designed for keen policy influencers aged between 15 and 20 years.<\/p>\n

The program will welcome 12 young people who will undertake leadership training as well as engage in networking opportunities with their peers.<\/p>\n

Regional Youth Voice spokesperson Jack Pearson, who is also Surf Coast Shire Council\u2019s Youth Development Team Leader, said with many people slowing down their lives in the wake of coronavirus, now was the ideal time for those passionate about decision making to broaden their horizons.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith our daily lives changed by coronavirus, many young people have no doubt spent more time than usual thinking about their future,\u201d Mr Pearson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re someone who has leadership ambitions in any part of your life, this is a great opportunity. As well as receiving formal training, it\u2019s a chance to influence decision making at a regional level.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will also be a valuable addition to your resume at the start of 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n

Successful applicants will attend five meetings which will be held on Tuesdays between the hours of 4.30pm and 7.30pm.<\/p>\n

Each meeting will span from June to December.<\/p>\n
