{"id":37866,"date":"2020-05-12T08:34:17","date_gmt":"2020-05-11T22:34:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=37866"},"modified":"2020-05-12T16:50:46","modified_gmt":"2020-05-12T06:50:46","slug":"victorian-schools-reopen-may-26","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/victorian-schools-reopen-may-26\/","title":{"rendered":"Victorian schools to re-open from May 26"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>VICTORIAN government schools will begin re-opening their doors to students in less than two weeks in the latest easing of coronavirus restrictions just announced by Premier Daniel Andrews.<br \/>\nUnder the plan, there will be a pupil-free day on May 25, and classes will\u00a0resume for prep, Grade 1, Grade 2, Year 11 and Year 12 students on May 26.<br \/>\nYears 3-10 will resume classes from June 9.<br \/>\n&#8220;This is a staged approach, a staggered approach, both in terms of public health \u2013 to limit the number of people that are moving throughout the Victorian community \u2013 and also for a whole range of practical reasons, to give schools the appropriate time to move back to face-to-face teaching,&#8221; Mr Andrews said this morning.<br \/>\nHe said\u00a0students in Years 3-10 will still be allowed to attend classrooms early if they are unable to learn from home, and\u00a0Year 10 students doing VCE subjects would be allowed in the classroom for those classes from May 26.<br \/>\nThere will be staggered drop-off and pick-up times, and social distancing will still be in effect.<br \/>\n&#8220;That will be challenging, but this work,&#8221; Mr Andrews said.<br \/>\nEducation Minister James Merlino said millions of dollars would be spent on keeping schools clean.<br \/>\n&#8220;Schools will have the PPE (personal protective equipment) that they need. There has already been additional supplies of PPE equipment. Schools will have all the hand sanitiser that they need.<br \/>\n&#8220;There are very strong guidelines and advice from the CHO (<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.health.vic.gov.au\/public-health\/chief-health-officer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Chief Health Officer<\/a>) in terms of hygiene and cleaning practices within our schools. There will also be $45 million for additional cleaning for the remainder of term 2 and all of term 3.
