THE Torquay Bowls Club will begin its next season with a new synthetic green and a freshened-up interior.
\nThe club has received a $410,000 federal government grant to install a new surface to replace the top green, allowing it to operate year-round instead of having to close down for four months over the winter.
\nWhile it is closed until further notice due to the COVID-19 restrictions, Dulux Australia has donated paint for the sharpening up of the clubhouse interior, which Joe Issell and his team of painters have generously done at no cost to the club.
\nTorquay Bowls Club<\/a> chair Gary Banks said the offer of help from Mr Issell was typical of a man who was both a major sponsor and also the incoming bowls section president.
\nConstruction of the new green will start June and is scheduled to be finished for the usual opening of the season in September.
\n\u201cThe all-weather green will enable the TBC to provide year-round bowling facilities for club members, the wider community and visiting bowlers,\u201d Mr Banks said.
\nThe green construction will be managed by Australian Sportbuild, which undertook the massive job of building the Echuca-Moama Bowls Club.
\nMr Banks said the club was excited about working with its many local business sponsors to establish a truly world-class facility that the local community could enjoy.
\nHe said projects at the club in the next few months would require extensive new landscaping and other works for which members would be asked to volunteer their help.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
