<\/p>\nGeelong Racing Club has today announced that last year\u2019s Melbourne Cup-winner Danny O\u2019Brien will set up training stables on course at Geelong.<\/p>\n
The new arrangement will see approximately 20 horses trained out of the Geelong base which will add to the overall quality of horses being trained out of the facilities, with Danny joining Geelong Racing Club\u2019s other Group One trainers in Troy and Leon Corstens, who arrived at Geelong a couple of years go.<\/p>\n
Geelong Racing Club CEO Daniel Salter said that the club had been in discussions with Danny for some time in an attempt to lure the highly successful stable to Geelong.<\/p>\n
\u201cDanny uses our facilities regularly for track work and jump-outs, as many of his horses are based at his Barwon Heads property. Following all of his recent success \u2013 including last year\u2019s Melbourne Cup win with Vow and Declare \u2013 Danny\u2019s horse numbers are growing, and Geelong provides a great link between both his Flemington and Barwon Heads training complexes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe improved facilities at the Geelong Racing Club coupled with the fact that the race track has been performing so well were key factors in influencing Danny\u2019s decision, as was the fact that our racecourse manager James Dalton \u2013 who worked for Danny for nine years managing his Barwon Heads property \u2013 is in charge of the tracks and training facility.\u201d<\/p>\n
Danny O\u2019Brien said that the new base was an exciting opportunity, not only as it fits nicely with their geographical footprint, but that it would also be tremendous for the stable.<\/p>\n
\u201cGeelong has excellent options for training and enhances our ability to provide the best training opportunities for any horse trained in Australia.
