THE Torquay Returned and Services League (RSL) is giving gift packages to veterans to they are still in their thoughts despite the isolation.<\/p>\n
The sub-branch’s May lunch usually gives veterans meet at the Torquay Bowls Club to enjoy each other’s company and a free meal. However, with many veterans self-isolating due to the coronavirus the lunch has been cancelled.<\/p>\n
Determined to remain in touch with their veterans show that fellowship remains, Torquay RSL have been sending gift packages to their veterans instead.<\/p>\n
The gift packages contain a card from Torquay RSL president Bob Tyler, Anzac biscuits, tea bags, a red poppy, and a list of support contacts.<\/p>\n
Mr Tyler said the packages show veterans they will stay unified regardless of the effects of the virus.<\/p>\n
“The past few weeks have been very difficult for veterans who often have anxiety, stress and depression health conditions at any time.<\/p>\n
“Our gift bags aimed at letting the veterans know we were thinking of them, and telephone welfare checks to most of our members let them know we were there if they needed any support.”<\/p>\n
The packages were delivered by volunteer committee members and made with the help of local businesses MCG Signs, Happiness Is (ANZAC Biscuits) and Coast Print.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
