Armed with her oxygen tank, Ms Sinopoli said the trip would likely be her last.<\/p>\n
Before that day, she hadn\u2019t left home for more than a year.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was so beautiful; I wasn\u2019t well that day but I made the effort because I was with my nurse,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat chair also floats in the water and to have that access, to go so close to the water and get that fresh ocean air, it is absolutely fantastic.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Dellebeke (who’s been taking care of Ms Sinopoli for about a year) said her patient\u2019s journey to finding peace in her end was touching.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s very unwell but I think her best thing is this positive attitude that she has and her fantastic sense of humour, a bit of a black sense of humour,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cYounger people want to stay independent to the end. Lisa\u2019s very honest and has very good insight into her own disease.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve often said to people when they\u2019re younger (and in palliative care) that they\u2019re the hardest patients to nurse because they don\u2019t admit to pain; they just keep on going, even though they\u2019re really struggling. That\u2019s the admirable thing about it, and a very Aussie thing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Sinopoli will be 49 on June 10. Her youngest child, Caleb, will turn 18 on June 19.<\/p>\n
She said it was her wish to hold on for her son\u2019s birthday.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve organised my funeral, or celebration. My coffin is in the garage, everything\u2019s ready.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe all have regrets in life but we can\u2019t focus on them. We\u2019ve got to love each day as if it\u2019s our last and just love one another.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have no regrets; I have my beautiful children and I\u2019m so grateful for that.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said in life she had learnt three things she should never have taken for granted \u2013 birds, the ocean, and the people she\u2019s met along the way.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re not like everyone else (when facing end of life), it changes every perspective.\u201d<\/p>\n
