TOP PORT Adelaide captain Travis Boak is already widely admired in Torquay, but has received another plaudit by being named the Tigers\u2019 number one ticket holder for their 2016 season in the BFL.<\/p>\n
The club\u2019s committee contacted the AFL footballer last week to offer him the honour, and he was reportedly very humbled to be asked.<\/p>\n
the 27-year-old with his ticket within the next few weeks, possibly after Port Adelaide\u2019s NAB Challenge game in Melbourne \u2013 coincidentally against the TIGER Richmond Tigers \u2013 on March 10.<\/p>\n
Tigers life member and club ambassador Steve Grossman said the Boak family name was revered at Torquay and Travis was only adding to that legacy.<\/p>\n
He said club president Steve Cooper had been considering the idea for a couple of months.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s a wonderful young man, dedicated to his family.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe has certainly worked hard and has done really well for himself.<\/p>\n
\u201cBeing someone who\u2019s come right through the club, playing juniors, he\u2019s quite entitled to be number one ticket holder.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Grossman said Boak \u2013 one of Port Adelaide\u2019s marquee players, a twotime All-Australian and a John Cahill Medallist (Port\u2019s best and fairest) \u2013 was the club to be named to the position, as ticket holder in many years.<\/p>\n
He said Boak was still a familiar face around the club as he dropped in at training every time he returned home to visit his mother, Chicki. Boak will also be in Torquay on May 1 as part of an event he is hosting at Spring Creek Reserve, part of efforts to raise at least $10,000 for a treatment chair at the Andrew Love Cancer Centre to be named in honour of his late father, Roger.<\/p>\n
As well as Boak, the fundraiser will feature at least three other AFL players.<\/p>\n
